Introductions all round

Hiya!
I just thought I’d take a moment to say ‘hello’ and introduce the site, a couple of concepts and explain the irony and not so ironic positions I find myself in when writing this blog.
IRLfemale was so named because I was fed up of being asked if I was a girl in real life.  Especially mid raid.  ESPECIALLY when tanking, mid raid.  Admittedly, the only time that ever acually happened was when i took over for my other half, Anatole, and was looking after his level 70 Palladin, pre Burning Crusade.  Nevertheless, it gets a bit wearing to get it from level 1 to the ends of time™.

Weary as I am of being asked if I’m a girl, I still think its really quite cool to keep affirming that I am, and play both the ‘typical’ and ‘atypical’ games on the variety of consoles, and PCs in our house.
I’m into everything from The Witcher to Oblivion, Ridge Racer and Wipeout to Assassin’s Creed, Guitar Hero, SingStar, Raving Rabbits, Final Fantasy, Nintendogs, Cooking Mama.  I don’t play ANYTHING, but I don’t have much taste when it comes to games, as long as they entertain me.
A bit like music really.

I guess, more importantly than that (for me at least), I’m a writer, and have a fairly good sense of humour (I think, others may disagree) and I might as well share my thoughts on the games, and the gaming community as a whole with others, because I’m a huge narccisist and believe that people should be subjected to my ranting occassionally.

I’m going to try to do reviews in an even and balanced way.  For games that I’m playing long term (like World of Warcraft, Eve ‘etc’) this won’t work, but for our newer games, and the games I’m replaying after a break, I’ll be reviewing both thier appeal, elements of the game while I’m there, and thier ‘longevity’.  Occasionally, the subject of my femininity may be raised, but only if something riles me into it – so in truth, I’m not going to be looking at games and saying ‘well this is a great game for girls’ cause, to be totally honest, I think that’s sexist nonsense.

There are a few games I won’t touch with a ten foot bargepoll, if I can help it.  They happen to be most sports games, but I have an uncle and a brother on hand for those instances.

Finally, I am biassed.  Aside from WOW and Eve, I’ve got a ‘thing’ for Final Fantasy, Dynasty Warriors, and, much to my partner’s confusion, the Sims.  So don’t expect me to go after them with big sticks, it ain’t gonna happen.
